SetupDesk

Privacy policy

SetupDesk collects as little as it can and says plainly what it does collect — Google Analytics included. This page walks through it in plain terms.

SetupDesk is a static website of setup guides. We do not require accounts to read anything, and we collect only what is described below. This policy was last updated on 9 October 2026.

What we collect

If you subscribe to our setup notes, we store the email address you give us so we can send them; you can unsubscribe from any message. We also measure which guides get read using Google Analytics, as set out in the next section. We do not sell personal information.

Analytics: Google Analytics 4

Here's the setup, in the same spirit as our guides. SetupDesk runs Google Analytics 4, a service from Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd. It records which pages are viewed, the referring site, approximate location (city or country), device and browser type, and session timing. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We've left advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation switched off, so the data is not used for advertising and is never sold.

Step one is consent. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a banner asks first, and nothing is sent to Google until you click Accept. Elsewhere, analytics is on by default and you can turn it off at any time. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, you're treated as opted out. Only once analytics is allowed does GA4 set its first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to 2 years. The choice itself lives in your browser's local storage under the key analytics-consent, not in a cookie.

To change it later, change your analytics choice and the banner reopens. Google's privacy policy covers its side, and the opt-out browser add-on blocks Google Analytics on all sites.

Cookies and third parties

When you click an affiliate link and visit a VPN provider, that provider may set its own cookies to attribute a referral; their privacy policy governs what happens on their site. See our affiliate disclosure for how those links work. Apart from Google Analytics, we keep third-party scripts on our own pages to a minimum.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time, and you can ask us to delete the email address we hold for you by writing to [email protected]. Beyond that address, the only other data involved is the Google Analytics measurement described above, which you can switch off at any time.
